A list of lives that never made it to fiction
I.
"You're so lucky," they all say. "He loves you so much."
I smile at them. "I love him too."
And I do.
II.
I'm working as a ghost writer and a rich girl comes in one day with her life story. I listen to her for three hours then put a hand on her shoulder.
"Lady," I say. "This will never sell. You're too happy."
III.
I live with one cat and then she got run over by a car one day.
I was sad, but not that sad.
IV.
A pop star is moderately successful. He doesn't do drugs, drinks in moderation, and has been in a steady relationship for three years. He's not even gay or anything.
V.
You're happy and grow old happily. All the good things that happen to you loom large in your life but are hardly relevant to anyone besides yourself. Nobody really wants to hear about that time you directed a school play.
