Kki Sweets
A friend and i paid a visit to Kki Sweets located in the heart of the school of the arts and savoured the most delicate japanese cakes and teas. Its pretty light wooden interior complemented the subdued skylight panels in the day, and the dainty japanese ceramics added an elegance to the cafe which i love. I should've discovered this zen-vibing/ bonsai-potted place earlier when i was studying for my A levels; but then again that's a period i'd rather not return to.
I'm a firm believer that food either tastes good or looks good. Its the sad but unfortunate truth (cue the llaollao and Honeycreme anecdotes) so i was rather skeptical about these fairy-like miniature cakes. Well, its safe to say that Kki sweets proved me wrong; its paper-thin biscuit bases and gentle flavourful centres that trickled down as you cut into the cake was both a treat to the eyes and a joy to the tastebuds.
Cakes: Fromage Melon; a cheesecake with a surprise within/ Antoinette; White Chocolate Mousse
I honestly cannot remember the teas we had but its suave warm notes harmonized perfectly with the airy cloud-esque cakes. This cafe is definitely for the faint-hearted foodie who appreciates the most delicately-flavoured, intricately hand-crafted desserts.
If you're someone who prefers a huge chock slice of red velvet with a dollop-full of heavy cream cheese icing though then perhaps this place isn't for you.
The humble store owner told the story of how her husband and herself decided to craft their own fluffy soft creations inspired by cakes they had during a vacation to Japan. And so Kki (Cake-y, get it?) Sweets was born, and it graced the streets of Annsiang hill before migrating to a cozy nook of SOTA.
Do pop by their co-owner's shop; the little drom store, located right beside Kki Sweets for your daily dose of design and colloquial Singaporean stabs.
