Incredible Things /Prelaunch for VGY x Guerlain Cosmetics Pre-Fall 2015: ESSENCE

If someone told me two days ago that I would have the opportunity to attend a pre-launch for an up-and-coming fashion line i would've laughed right in their face. But yes, world, I did! And i honestly had the best time of my life.
Last night at 7pm a select group of people assembled at the Rose Room in Takashimaya (yes i didn't know such a room existed either) for VainGloriousYou's pre-launch of ESSENCE; their very first capsule collection. It was all tremendously exciting, although none of us really knew what to expect. To be painfully honest with you, I'm not extremely familiar with VGY- unless visiting their store at Haji Lane about twice counts (it really doesn't). Still.
I was lucky enough to be invited along by my lovely friend Lydia from church, an ardent and quietly glamorous follower of online fashion, and we had such a great time together- it was filled with incredible things.

Let me put it out there that i was once that person who rolled her eyes at online stores and (especially) blogshops because i didn't believe in their quality. I was the girl who stuck to walk-in stores like Zara, Pull & Bear, or H&M because they seemed safer. However, witnessing the online fashion landscape evolve and mature in wonderful ways changed my mind. Companies like ASOS and yes, even VGY attained such success in marketing their clothes that they are now able to house their own label. Its all pretty cool if you ask me. And thankfully, I've also learnt the how-tos in purchasing garments online through rather regretful experiences.. But that'll be a post for another day.

So yes, back to the event. We had the opportunity to serve as an audience to Ms Tricia Ong, the beauty and brains behind VGY itself. She humbly brought as through the company story, as well as the thought process behind this exclusive collection. From the meticulously hand drawn design of the fabric to the cut and silhouette of each piece; she explained it all through a fashion designer's eyes.
Its not often in life where you meet someone whose passion exudes in a way that Tricia's does- she speaks confidently with a smile and eyes so bright you know that she pours her soul into her designs.

Next came the "Guerlain Beauty Masterclass Workshop", which is a mouthful to say out loud if you ask me. Guerlain is essentially one of those stores with a spotless counter in places like Takashimaya or Tangs Orchard, where people my age walk past but never touch. I mean, we don't all have the luxury of spending $45 on a lip gloss, do we? Tricia amiably confided in us that she was the hugest fan of Guerlain's Meteorites collection; which was why she partnered up with them for sponsorship and goodie bags off that range. Each of us were given an entire set of their make up and brushes to sample each product after we removed our make up.

It was, well, glorious. I personally treated each tube or compact as if it was liquid gold, because it was so expensive. One of their primers actually had gold flakes in them, which disappeared after blending. The make up course was marvellous, and in the selfies above (please pardon them) I'm wearing a full face of make up from Guerlain, blending champagne shadows with brown and purple eyeliner, although my phone's camera did not pick it up.
Oh i so regret not bringing a DSLR like some of the other girls did.

Lydia and I (along with new found friends Hope and Roxanne) had an unapologetically Gu Niang time giggling and laughing as we experimented with the pretty tints. I believe that it enhanced their already lovely faces; and we were so glad when we found out that they had generously included samples from Guerlain in the goodie bags.

Being able to get close and personal with the thriving online fashion scene was a pleasure and a privilege. Thank you VainGloriousYou and Guerlain for organising this incredible pre-launch and especially Ms Tricia Ong and her team for their magnanimous invitations and God-gifted talent.
And most of all Lydia, whom without with this night would not have been possible; i had the best time with you.
Cheers to more amazing opportunities to come.
X
